NHSSA offers a First-Time Homebuyer Class each month to help new homebuyers succeed in their homeownership journey. 

To meet the qualifications for a First- Time Homebuyer Program, you must obtain a Certificate of Completion for Homebuyer Education.  The certificate of completion can only be obtained by following the steps below: 

Step 1: Participating in a Orientation Webinar

Step 2: Completing a One on One Pre-Purchase Advising Session

Step 3: Completing a HUD approved First Time Homebuyer Education Class

Step 3 : Participate in a HUD approved Homebuyer Education Class

First Time Homebuyer Classes - Monthly


Through this HUD-approved class, you will learn about:

  • The benefits and responsibilities of homeownership

  • The various steps involved in your homeownership journey

  • The various roles & responsibilities of each of the professionals involved in the home purchase process

  • How to determine how much you can afford, so you can start shopping within your price range

  • Credit management and budgeting

  • How to obtain mortgage loan from a reputable lender

  • The process for shopping for a home

  • How to maintain your home and avoid delinquency or foreclosure


The First -Time Homebuyer Class is a live 6-hour class. Participants must attend the full 6-hour class to receive credit for the class. 

  • Next Class Date and Time: June 20th & June 21st

  • Time: 6pm-9pm on both nights

  • Location: Home Ownership Center located at 847 Steves Ave., San Antonio TX 78210

  • Class Fee: $35 per household

Self-Paced Homebuyer Education Classes 

As an alternative to our scheduled monthly classes, NHSSA also offers self-paced First-Time Homebuyer Education Classes in English and Spanish through our online classroom. It can be a good option for buyers who need more flexibility in completing a HUD-approved homebuyer education class on their own schedule. 


  • Date and Location: Self-paced and online.

  • Class Fee: The class cost is $99 per household. 

  • How to Enroll: Register at the NHSSA e-Home America site and pay the class fee.
